Kewa health, heat, mood and the voyage

To care for Kewa, reduce pollution, extend water and forests around settlements, avoid prolonged overheating and allow time to recover travel energy. The official starter guide explains the four status indicators below. Dev Blog #29 also connects biome health, temperature and dialogue choices to Kewa’s happiness. Neither source gives numerical health thresholds or dialogue-point values.

Status key from the official starter guide
BarWhat the guide says
HealthGreen is the current state, yellow can be improved, purple means a Toxic Area is damaging the biome, orange is overheating.
TemperatureShows the current region’s temperature. Overheating damages health; Kewa can move to a cooler area automatically.
HappinessA happier Kewa grows Kewa fruit trees for the Peeps. An unhappy Kewa puts spikes through the settlement. Dev blog #29 ties Kewa’s mood to Peep mood.
EnergyTravel spends it. Kewa feeds at debris fields or asteroid belts, then digests. If the bar is low, a rest waypoint is inserted for you.

Care checks before the next voyage

  • Keep high pollution from sitting 15 minutes. Purple health is the toxic rule, explained on the soot page.
  • The official guide recommends expanding water and planting forests. Complete landscaping jobs so water can flow, then compost suitable ground and plant saplings to extend atmosphere.
  • Use the temperature overlay when planning a stop. Dev Blog #29 says a prolonged hot stay can lower happiness and trigger an emergency trip to a cooler area.
  • Check energy against the planned journey. The starter guide says better health restores energy faster; feeding still needs digestion, and a journey costing more than the current reserve adds a rest waypoint.
  • Dialogue choices affect happiness according to Dev Blog #29, but no tested point table is available. Hotfix #3’s overlapping-conversation lock is a separate issue, not an ordinary mood penalty.

Separate travel hazards from dialogue bugs

Dev Blog #28 warns that debris falling while Kewa feeds can damage buildings, which then need repairs to resume production. Check the alert bar and affected buildings after a feeding stop; the source does not publish a fixed damage rate.

If the Whale Communicator shows an active conversation with no choices and will not let you leave, Hotfix #3 identifies that as the dialogue collision bug. The patch prevents new cases but explicitly does not repair saves already in that state. Raising happiness is not a documented repair for that bug.
