Power range, connections and adjacency

I split this from the repair checklist on purpose. If a building shows a blue tile and you need the sequence of checks, go to power not connecting. This page is the rule the official guide and FAQ actually state.

Three ways power moves

  1. Early game: power flows between adjacent buildings. A building with a power icon needs power. Sitting next to a generator is not enough — the footprint has to land on a green tile. Blue means you may build there and still get no power.
  2. Power Lines: the FAQ says copper access enables their production. They have limited range, extendable through a perk, and forests or buildings can break a link. Routing along roads can help. Longer range or riverbank terraforming may help across water. The FAQ labels Elevators across height differences as a player-reported workaround, not a guaranteed connection.
  3. A proper grid unlocks later. The FAQ calls it a mid-to-late system, not a day-one tool.

Facing, height and the road all change whether a link forms. Hotfix #1 (17 Oct 2026) changed the generator’s range overlay from a pollution ring to the power ring. Hotfix #3 (18 Oct 2026) fixed green “valid” tiles that appeared when no generator was connected. If your overlay still lies, check the build number against the update log.

Adjacency: official rule and documented examples

Before you confirm a building, the game previews positive and negative neighbors. The official starter guide says adjacency does not apply between buildings at different heights. The examples below are a dated snapshot of the publisher-hosted, community-editable wiki, not measured throughput or a universal bonus formula. Check the current in-game preview before committing materials.

Left Ctrl allows placement before a road connection; it does not waive road access for construction and operation or make materials free. Employment is limited to the blue boundary shown when selecting housing. Older Fandom Demo records are not substituted for the publisher-hosted wiki values above.
